God, is 2012 the end?
Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization FAMSI, considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be “a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in.” Supposedly based on the
Mayan calendar, the 2009 science fiction apocalyptic disaster film 2012 is based on misinterpretations of Mayan lore.
The only way to know what the future holds is to live in a dimension outside of time; that is to have an
omniscient view of things, knowing the beginning from the end. God foretelling future events and imparting this knowledge to an individual is true
prophecy. Many have tried their hands at prophecy but one can only judge a prophet by their “success rate.” A true prophet will be 100% correct 100% percent of the time – if not, he or she is just guessing! In Old Testament times the penalty for pretending to be a prophet was death. How many of today’s astrologers, palm readers and the like would be willing to stake their lives on their predictions?
The Bible contains literally hundreds of prophecies. Many, if not the majority, of these prophecies have already come to pass. Many “end times” prophecies have yet to be fulfilled. While there has been disagreement concerning interpretation of Bible prophecy, not once has a Bible prophecy been proved false. Most striking are the many, many prophecies concerning the Jewish Messiah, that is, Jesus Christ.
In spite of the fact that
Jesus specifically said,
“…no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” Still, many use convoluted theories to try to interpret the Bible to predict a date for “the end.”Obviously they've
all been wrong!
The disciple,
Simon Peter, actually infers the date is “variable” and dependent upon how God’s people live out their lives,
“Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.” Though this date may be “variable”, God knows exactly when the end will come.
Ironically, Jesus himself
prophesied that there would be many false prophets in the end-times, including those who would claim to be the Messiah, “See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”
Based upon God’s 100% perfect record, you can know with certainty that the end-times will be a time of
great distress. The question is, “Are you prepared?”
